See the Light
Drawing from a book I gave myself for my twenty-fifth birthday. ( I have weird habits. Drawing myself pictures is only one of them.)
I just ran across this one again and remembered how much fun it was to do that project.
Do you ever give yourself presents for your own birthday?

Not really. Though I have told others exactly what to get me, which is kind of like the same thing.
That's cheating. You're supposed to wander around the house sighing and saying things like, "I sure wish I had a new toggle/BUS/Card/Data Proxy!" or whatever it is you computer nerds want for your birthday. And then wait around for someone to buy it, acting all surprised, like, "how'd you know that's what I wanted?"
Computer nerd?!?? That hurts. Energy geek, maybe, but we just want iPods like everyone else.
Fine. "Energy Geek." Man, you computer nerds are sure sensitive!
every year.
Really, Grump? What'd you get this year?
I get birthday presents for myself 2-3 times a month, but I try really hard to associate them with the closest holiday, because if you include worldwide event anniversaries, other countries holidays, lucky number days and on the spot, celebratory, gift-giving-worthy occurrences, there are more than enough to go around.
I'm throwing myself a lavish party this year.
I buy myself stuff all the time when finances permit it. The last thing I bought for myself for fun was a new mini tape recorder. I've stopped thinking of how close it is to my birthday or to Christmas.
