Happy Birthday, Voyager I

Guess who else turned 30 this year? Voyager I, and it's still out there sending us pictures. Imagine this, it's 9.5 billion miles away and takes 13 hours to send its signal (at light speed) to earth. That puppy wandered far! Keep up the good work, little space Voyager! (Get this, they even included a record of "earth sounds" for extraterrestrials to listen to to get to know our planet. Wasn't that thoughtful?

THREE-OH!

I am proud to have turned thirty today. So far, I can say that I really like it! Up to now the festivities for yours truly have included, phone calls, text messages, emails, e-cards, surprise party (with cake and a singing candle!), gifts, money, and a sneaky kiss or two from the boyfriend who caught an early flight home from a business trip. (thank you, sneaky Boyfriend!)

Ah! it's good to be thirty!

Happy Birthday, Lostdog!

I thought lostdog was truly lost, seeing as how I hadn't heard or seen from him in months, but it turns out he wasn't lost at all! Only celebrating his 33rd Birthday (that's 148 in dog years) up at Ben Vrackie (wherever that is). Here's what lostdog had to say:

It was my birthday on the 22nd (woo hoo!), and, as a kind of celebration or something, I decided to run up Ben Vrackie, a local hill/mountain-type thing. Got up really early in the morning to the frostiest day imaginable, with the air full of freezing fog and a bitter, bitter cold all round. Ran up Ben Vrackie(almost a Munroe but not quite) with my Dad's camera, hoping to get some pictures of frosty plants or something but not expecting to see any nice views through the mist. Bizarrely, the mist only went halfway up the mountain, and above it was clear blue skies and a blazing summery sun. It was a really still day, so all the mist and frost just lay on the valley floor, giving some amazing vistas from the summit of the hill. Here's some of the pictures wot I took. Some of the finest scenes I've ever seen, and I had them all to myself. Best birthday present I've ever had, and an excellent way to start my 33rd year.

So, my 28th Birthday has come. I am excited. I have never been 28 years old! I have no idea what it's like to be 28. Anything could happen! I can't wait...

I am a bad canine friend! I completely forgot to celebrate Brutus' eighth birthday! It was a week ago today. So, I'm not just one week late, I'm seven dog weeks late with this Birthday Wish. Argh! That's what I get for ignoring my desk calendar.

They're Called "Haw Flakes"

And they're pretty much what you'd expect... if you were expecting haw flakes.
I bought them for my birthday (I buy myself lots of stuff on my birthday. It conceals the fact that no one else is buying me things) on a whim. I mean, come on, who wouldn't buy a package of Haw Flakes for only 49cents? Needless to say, the first generation checkout girl said, "I remember those. I used to eat those all the time as a kid." She said they were kind of chewy, but not like gum.
So, there you have it. They are kind of chewy and they are dissimilar to gum, but they taste vaguely of pears. Dried pears. That was the closest food comparison I could make. I actually rather like them. haw haw. I need sumore.

Birthday Blondie

Smoking a Birthday cigar.

This was my first cigar! (and last?) Smoked in comfort on the back porch with mymo and his wife late at night. His wife said they were dry. Mymo said they were ok. It was rather dry, but was spicy and sweet, which was nice. We made a bunch of "tap that ash" jokes, which, frankly, were beneath us, but still hilarious.

On Turning Twenty Seven

Today is my birthday. Cake and ice cream day. The one day a year I reflect on my life and feel momentarily miserable before plunging into self-absorbed revelry.
