Cowboy up means what exactly?

Well, I went to the website and read the poem...as soon as my stomach stops turning I'll be okay.

As used in this example, cowboy up appears to mean the same thing as sucking up to whoever is currently in power, sometimes also mistaken for patriotism.

And war. Cowboys are apparently warriors, a tradition held since back when those damn Indians always got in the way. A search for "Cowboys for Peace" turned up about nothing, except for some German protest group that doesn't have a website (well, I guess you wouldn't expect cowboys to have websites).

There is actually a body of some pretty damn good cowboy poetry...Baxter Black comes to to mind.

And while I enjoy the company of my few cowboy friends, and I've learned a hell of a lot about horses from them, real cowboys work far harder than I want to.

i think some of you missed the point of the word 'cowboy up' and the poem taking it too literally.

In my mind, the references of John Wayne said it best.
