Sing For That Supper!
Children, you know I come to you for help when I need it and you always come through for me. I appreciate this. I really... I do.
So, I need your help! I need possible audition songs for American Idol auditions in New Orleans. Something that doesn't need back-up music to sound good and that will suit my voice. (Go here if you have never heard my voice) I will only have about fifteen seconds to make an impression (if we're being honest) and broadway, jazz, coutry, and gospel are somewhat frowned upon, so put your thinking caps on and tell me what the hell to sing to these people!!
I'm counting on you, dear internet, to give me suggestions that will catapult me to instant fame and fortune.
No pressure...

Legitimate forms of music are frowned upon? What the hell does that leave? I wish I'd ever seen the show so that I could come up with some sort of suggestion that might have either the quality of good or at least fitting. All I can think of as types of music that are illigitimate are yodeling and polka, the later of which requires an accordian.
Oh, that's unclear then... I'll rephrase that.
Is that better? This is a pop music contest. So I should be aiming for pop.
Again I must emphasize that I've never seen the show, but my choice would be the Don Quixote song, as it's my favorite posting of yours so far. The guitar is really nice in it, but not completely necessary.
Oops you beat me with your posting. Pop. I'll think about that.
Ok, I've thought about it and there is clearly a reason they don't let 30-year-olds like me on the show. We don't do pop. I keep thinking of songs like Blue Savannah and What Are We Gonna Do for nice, instrument-free songs that will suit your voice. Talk about not pop. I mean, earth day isn't even on April 21st anymore.
There was a celebrity who looked a bit like you look, what was his name, but he sang "It Ain't Easy Being Green."
Sing "Carnival" by Natalie Merchant. Has nice hooks, is radio-friendly, the range is managable, the lyrics are excellent, and I think your voice would be well suited to it. *Throws two pennies on the table*
"Don't be jealous of the rocks that I got. I'm just k_sra from the blog." Hey, you should sing "Que Sera Sera."
How about Joe's Diner by Suzanne Vega. Is it Joe's Diner, or someone else's diner? I have the CD and I can't remember. Anyway, it's that one that goes...wait, humming doesn't work in text. AH! TOM's Diner. Thank you Google, I'll never sell my shares.

Awesome lyrics, cool tune, it suits.
"Happy Birhtday Mr. President", performed in Marylin Monroe fashion suites your voice well.
Competitive Bastard would just like to say that if I had a good reason, I'd hire Lydio and John MMMMMMM to pick songs for MY OWN DAMN VOICE, because (aaaah, at long last, here comes the compliment!) they are spot on. Don't know how you two MF-ers do it. But you are right about K-sra's voice and what it would do on these two songs. FUCK ME. I am really jealous.
(of the advice, that is. i'm happy k-sra's doing her own thing.) (also, i apparently have "hair-spritzing arms". as a good amerikun girl, i am really ashamed of myself. don't know whether to wax or see a doctor.)
Wow. WOW. Nope, I'd never heard you sing before. Wow. You're badass. And I'm leaning Tara's direction, though someone ganked my Nina Simone CD, so all I have is a case, and have no clue how the titles sound. But they're sure neat to read.
What about Joan Osbourne's "St. Theresa"? Or how about some Edith Piaf?
Hey, thanks, Daryk-with-the-cool-name. I appreciate that vote of confidence from a total stranger. Everyone else could just be being (been) nice to me, but not you, oh no. You have nothing to lose from staying silent. So thanks! : )
And thanks, everybody for the suggestions. They are very helpful. Keep 'em coming!
Oh, and I need more fast-paced numbers... Any thoughts?
